Key points:
- Introduce plasma-login-manager as a modern replacement for SDDM.
- New virtual plasma-keyboard and OEM plasma-setup wizard.
- Critical improvements in Wayland: XRandr emulation and reliable screen mirroring.
- USB portal for security in isolated apps and OCR support in Spectacle.
- Accessibility controls for edge contrast and Wi-Fi connection via QR code.
I can’t wrap my head around how good KDE has become, I end up crawling back to KDE every time. If some nice person will bake a native tilling mode like cosmic, it will be very hard to convince me to switch away from KDE.
I never liked KDE. I used it before there was GNOME but I used GNOME 2 for years and Cinnamon or XFCE after that.
I probably tried KDE4 once and KDE5 a couple times. Not for me. But I have used KDE a lot since Plasma 6. I have to agree with you. They are doing a great job. It is probably the best environment for Wayland.
I also use COSMIC a bit and Niri is my favourite environment. But I do seem to be using Plasma 6 a lot. It is sitting in front of me now.
These are some crazy big things!!
Plasma-login is nice, has some very needed things
Plasma-keyboard is essential for anyone on a convertible or even tablet, as the old maliit keyboard is abandonware
The usb portal will be really useful
Ocr support in spectacle! This exists on proprietary android but not AOSP, and on windows too. Really neat. I hope the integration is nice, this is a really big UI task.
I’ll be so glad to ditch maliit, it isn’t responsive at all and gets pushed off the screen by a simple vertical taskbar. Even worse, it spams the journal with so much unnecessary debug info that I never found any way to turn off or filter out.
Why the move from SDDM to PLM?
Sddm sucks bawls
