In Gates, Williams saw controversy. “He really liked that. He thought that would get a lot of press and publicity for the game,” Mandel remembers. “I thought it’s one thing to seek controversy, but it’s another thing to really divide people. It seemed obvious… that there were going to be existing Police Quest players who would drop out rather than buy a game with Daryl Gates’ name on it.”
I remember watching my dad play this game in the 90s… at least now I know he was always a fascist pig and was only emboldened enough by Maga to admit it.
Thanks, I had no idea this ever happened. That was a very interesting read indeed.
Damn, good article. I thought it was going to be about NARC.
That was a very interesting read. Thanks for sharing!
Wow that truly was an interesting read. I never played any of the Quest games myself. Is Ken Williams a MAGA these days?
That crossed my mind as I was reading too, but if he is, he’s never said it publicly. I’d like to imagine he’s not, even though he was clearly pro-business conservative back in the day.
There’s a lot to be entertained by police quest even when you’re aware of the flagrant copaganda throughout. It can be comedic, even. Look up ways to die in police quest (YouTube) and it’s pretty funny.
Thanks for sharing, interesting article.
