What would happen if food became a “human right”? How does that work? Is it all about SNAP? In the us at least?
Food is a human right. The UN declared so in the Declaration of Human Rights like 40 years ago.
What does it mean? Lots of oppressive countries commit war crimes and crimes against humanity and violate human rights.
Countries are sovereign. Other countries can choose to issue sanctions or declare war against countries who commit such atrocities
Maybe then one can’t blow up food as it arrives for starving people.
I imagine lots of these discussions are largely symbolic, in the sense that they provide an expression of the country’s will. It is then a lot of effort to make actual laws out of that intention; but the intention is still foundational to all and any laws. That’s why it’s relevant anyways.
