This movie series exists to make these pieces of shit look better. The Warrens are terrible people who exploit others for their own gain and its all they’ve ever done. Shame people will watch these and unconsciously have a better opinion of the Warrens than deserved.

I like the series but it really hasn’t changed my opinion of the Warrens as I see them as purely works of fiction.

I suppose my complete disbelief of the existence of ghosts, spirits and demons affects that and someone who does believe might come to like the Warrens.

Even if I believed in ghosts, I would still not believe that chanting in Latin would ward them off. I can hold my disbelief during the movie but it’s such a lame movie trope.

I find the movies entertaining, be cause they are. The whole universe is. But I don’t believe anything about the real life Warrens and the movies don’t affect my opinion of them.

I’m sure I’m not alone. I doubt most people even heard of these people, and it’s not hard to find the Wikipedia article about them once you try to look up whether these movies are truly based on real events.

Yeah most people dont do that. Most people dont care and, having not heard of them, equate their real selves to these brushed up fallacies. That was the whole point.

I don’t know what to think of this being one the most successful horror franchise in history.

Alien beats Conjuring based on inflation adjusted values. Alien’s 1979 box office of $188 M is equivalent to $839 M in 2025 and Aliens’ 1986 nominal box office goes from $183 M to $541 M in 2025 dollars.

But looking at how fast they’re pushing out the Conjuring movies (and how successful they are), I wouldn’t be surprised if Conjuring beats out the Alien franchise in another 2-3 years.

On a per movie basis, Conjuring’s top performing movie (#5 rank) drops a lot when adjusting for inflation.

But the real leader is The Exorcist (1973) which goes from rank #9 to #1, with nominal $431 M box office resulting in $3,145 M in 2025 dollars.

The same calculation for Jaws (1975) transforms nominal box office of $495 M to $2,980 M in 2025 dollars. With rank going from #5 to #2.

The Jaws franchise would also beat Conjuring if we use 2025 dollars as a baseline.
