‘Golden’ from the ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ soundtrack is up for three Grammy nominations.
Kinda wild that this song is the one so many people latched onto.
Setting aside the Saja Boys stuff (anything involving them, including Free), you have two diss tracks (How it’s Done, and Takedown), you have the song about how Huntr/x see themselves (Golden), and the song about what they’re really about (What it Sounds Like). All four of them are bangers, but what does it say about “the masses” and “the Grammy awards” when the one about how they see themselves (which turns out to not be real) does so much better than the brutally honest track.
Though personally I thought How it’s Done has the most mass appeal. I was expecting that to land more. But I think it’s the pop side of K-Pop that the mainstream is buying, not the hip-hop side.
Anyone who’s watched the movie has heard Golden about 5 or 6 times, and each of the other ones once or maybe twice. By the time the movie ends, Golden is the one that’s stuck in their heads, and that’s probably the reason they’ve latched on. If they played any other song as many times in the movie, that would be the one that got popular.
So as it so happens, I literally just watched the movie. Golden is only played 1 and 1\2 times during the movie. You hear takedown more.
There are a bunch of music theorists and vocal breakdown videos that help explain it. Golden is a masterpiece of singing, writing, and music production.
While the live performance on Jimmy was a key lower it the performance shows that they really are doing something amazing.
I agree that it’s lower on the list for likeability, but the Grammys are voted on by other artists and folks in the industry. On a technical level, Golden does take the top spot. In particular, singers throughout the industry have been blown away by the damn High A in Golden, and how much power she’s able to put behind it.
The entire soundtrack is honestly really good…
I’m just gonna come out and say it the movie and accompanying soundtrack are the best thing released this year.
Soda pop or bust.
It was okay but it’s still just K-Pop. It’s bizarre how easily hallyu brainwashing works on people who are otherwise very sceptical of soulless commercial pop music.
I was skeptical of the movie, but I ended up enjoying and loving the songs. And I don’t even tend to like musicals.
I mean it’s alr. There’s nothing too deep, some catchy brainless tunes for girls to have stuck in their head. Not complex and nothing groundbreaking.
