Similarly, for the first half of CY2025, Microsoft received $454.7 million as part of its revenue share agreement, implying OpenAI’s revenues for that six-month period were at least $2.273 billion, or around $2 billion less than the $4.3 billion previously reported. Through September, Microsoft’s revenue share payments totalled $865.9 million, implying OpenAI’s revenues are at least $4.329 billion.

According to Sam Altman, OpenAI’s revenue is “well more” than $13 billion. I am not sure how to reconcile that statement with the documents I have viewed.

My internal model of OpenAI is that its a shady business. They are in the industry of stealing data and information and transforming it into a service. With all of the drama surrounding their non-profit transition, and the fact that Altman was kicked out for essentially lying; I’m not surprised that figures and numbers leaked and reported to not line up.

Nevertheless, I kinda hope that AI inference continues to get cheaper. Like it or not, a lot of AI companies are offering their services at a discount in a feeble attempt to get a larger share of the market. This incentives them to basically lie about their capabilities, overpromice and under deliver. If the AI bubble we’re to pop it would be nice if the fallout weren’t as bad, and I think lower inference cost would help with that.

Agreed we are in a period like many years ago of subsidized uber/lyft ride where the inference cost of going down due to the competition. This is as now a goodies for us to test those service but we need to be realistic of the future. What I really like if the work on local model which is very promising.

I consider open source already won. Gpt 5 was supposed to be a big step forward but it got smoked in the space of a month. The only thing I’m worried about is the music models.

Meta basically stabbed all the big for profit companies in the back, and now China is walking towards what is left with a revolver. I feel like we got lucky tbh.
