The fix to that problem seems trivial though.
Hopefully there will pop up some commercial FOSS fediverse FB alternatives now when Facebook is about to go all in on the crazy. Or that the EU will pour some big money on the existing alternatives.
Anyway, Frendica seems to be the best option right now so I’ll give it a serious try.
Best would probably be if I quit social media. I find arguing on Facebook, Reddit and Lemmy very addictive.
However, I prefer it if my local boomers are on a slightly addictive but open and transparent social media, which isn’t controlled by an oligarch or random orange fascist.
I want something that is so similar to Facebook, that I basically can post a link on Facebook and when the boomer follow that link they’ll effortlessly create a new account and start using the fediverse FB clone, because that’s where I’ll post my content from now on.
A microblog app is not what I’m looking for.
Thanks, but it looks a little bit too old school and low budget. These are not people looking for a retro feel or extra privacy. They want something that look and feel like FB.

In Sweden, the most popular alternatives to FBM are Blocket and Tradera/ebay. But they’re all commercial and not on fediverse.
What do you think of Matrix based messaging apps? Seems like a better alternative to Signal and Wire. Depending on what server you’re using.
Same here. A fediverse alternative seems like a no brainer. Weird if there are no commercial apps already… Probably an easy way to get VC.

Facebook’s selling point is that your friends are already on it. If you want to convince random people, you have to show them what they’ll be joining.
Well, that’s why I’m asking.
Only problem is it’s mostly 50 year olds complaining about their neighboorhods’s minor problems or local contractors advertising themselves over and over again.
This is basically what I’m looking for. For me its not a problem. Most of the active people on Facebook are boomers. And that’s also the biggest reason why I’ve been “forced” to use Facebook. And also because it’s been the default communication platform of all local communities I’ve been part of.

As a millennial, I’m probably not alone when I write Red Alert, Atlantis, Diablo and Fallout 2 on a computer without internet connection. Also endless demos from PC Gamer CDs.
The more unusual game I want to add is Warlords 3. Got it as a Christmas gift from my cousins boyfriend (he was maybe 20 years older than me). Probably because he wanted someone he could play shared screen PvP with. Spent a lot of time with that game. The same guy also gave me a pirate copy of Diablo. I should probably give him a call today and thank him.
Also playing Tibia on a 33k dial up connection was special. A very laggy and expensive experience. Always afraid that mom would just turn off the connection because she had to make a phone call. And the true horror I felt when I encountered another player or a new monster deep within an unexplored dungeon. I didn’t like WoW when it came out. Probably because of emotional bluntedness that free PvP in combination with gear + xp loss causes.
And I’m still chasing the dragon.

I don’t think unbiased media exist. But some are at least less biased. And you want some bias towards scientific reasoning, honesty and meritocracy. Otherwise you introduce too much noise (which is one reason why being absolute about free speech leads to less free speech, and also the reason electronic warfare is something prioritized by politically weak and/or military weak state actors). Less noise usually correlate with what people perceive as left leaning or liberal bias (in the western political landscape of 2025). Might be very related to this. Also, I think it’s OK with biased media as long as one is open and explicit about it.
In Sweden I use Omni which is a commercial news aggregator, which I find relatively unbiased or balanced. Public service is pretty good as well.
For American news, I usually go for NPR first. Don’t know if they are super unbiased, but at least they are not full on crazy.
I’ve tried Ground News, but I feel it’s a bit too focused on politics of the English speaking sphere.
Maybe a more reasonable question: Is there anyone here self-hosting on non-shit hardware? 😅
