    Red scare is kinda an interesting study in horseshoe theory. Not that the radical left is the same as the radical right, just that some people are just attracted to radical beliefs in general, not the substance behind them.

    They started by representing themselves as part of the dirt bag left. Which in itself was a response to the alt right… ends up they were a lot more interested in the dirt bag part than the being leftist part.

      They were only ever interested in coming across as aloof, cynical, counter culture contrarians. Hipsters, very much in the way we stereotypically used that word in the mid-aughts. A tendency that most other millennials of that era grew out of by the time Obama took office. My freshman year roommate was exactly like her, he even had the same face and same smarmy, snide drawl as her, too-cool cynicism masking an untethered, dispossesed alienation. Like it’s almost triggering watching her talk because I see right through her to him. But, even he grew out of that phase eventually.
