DR Congo enacted complete protection of African gray parrots on August 13, 2025, banning their capture and trade nationwide. The decree aims to end trafficking that killed three birds for every one exported. If enforced effectively, it could bring major conservation and welfare benefits for one of Africa’s most iconic species.
I don’t understand how there could still be demand for this… Grays have been popular in aviculture for decades, so there’s no shortage of breeding stock available without needing to resort to taking animals from the wild. Hopefully these measures make a real difference.
