I think not. My hope for this country to be patriotic over, has cratered and cratered year after year. I just live here. That’s my stance. I live here, I pay taxes in contempt, I buy things in contempt in this country and I unwillingly sustain my living through what I have to pay for in contempt. Oh and I work and have worked jobs that I didn’t like that support this country’s function in contempt.
America’s history has just been fucked up, we are lead to believe that our founding fathers had good intentions for the country after we kicked Britain out from the country. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution was all a feel good moment for everyone for a young upstarting country on its road to that independence.
Then as each passing decade was built upon, it became clearer the kinds of people that took advantage of the country for one’s gains. And those people were the loud majority and instilled their ideas on a simpler world in a simpler country. Their causes, ideas and projections blossomed and took hold on every single life that lived in the US.
We have owners of this country now and it’s not the People/Public, for sure. Because that’s who’s ideals and dreams that were planted to take root into this country. We can’t possibly sink anymore lower than we have, because we’re there at rock bottom. A convicted felon, pedophile rapist is a president. We’ve had war criminals as presidents before, but this has been a new low.
And even if shithead-in-chief is out of office. There’s nothing I can think of, that will restore America to whatever former glory it had. It’s just dead.
Lol. Hi, I’m black. You’re just now feeling the level disgust people like me have felt since 1865. Welcome aboard the contempt train.
Choo Choo!
“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” — Mark Twain
The first step will be class consciousness, including what’s left of the middle class.
As jaded and sad as I am about how bad things are, it is at least shedding some light on problems we have had for a lot longer. Trump didn’t invent all of this, he just magnified it and drew attention to it. It is definitely possible that within my lifetime there comes a point where we start to change course. It will take generations to unwind and build something new and better, but I would be patriotic about moving in the right direction, even while we still have a long way to go.
Patriotism is fine, like it’s even a good thing.
Because it’s about being proud of your country, for the good shit it’s doing.
Nationalism is bad, because it ignores reality and is just belligerent yelling that their country is the best while disregarding facts and repeating propaganda.
Like, Norewegians are proud to be from Norway, because they have a great society that looks after the weakest, that’s patriotic and something we should strive towards.
That’s different than a trump supporter flying flags and laughing at how much people with empathy are upset, that’s nationalism.
There’s a reason we have two separate words for it, but the fascists keep wanting to erase the differences in usage.
I don’t think so but look you’ll have a helluva good books for for a generation. Spain has the generation of the 98 and US will have the generation of the 2028
It never was patriotic to begin with. It was loyal to the UK the entire time, but the UK is actually loyal to the Roman Catholic Church.
Wait till this guy hears about Henry VIII 😬
Henry the Impotent? I’ve heard about it somewhat, but that’s in my circle of concern.
The Suez Canal crisis alone is firm evidence that the US is not loyal to the UK. The UK does not have the imperial power and influence the US has and it is not even close. Your power relation is reversed.
That’s why I said the UK was loyal to the Roman Catholic Church. It’s Rome and the Vatican who’s controlled the US the entirety of the country’s existence. Maybe I should’ve clarified that.
