Let’s be real: most people don’t help others in need even when they are able to. People who donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or volunteer with homeless people do so for performative reasons or to just look good in front of someone; in the end, they are doing so for their own self-interest.

    Here’s a showerthought: everyone complaining about Grimreaper has the option to block them and never see their posts, but they don’t do that because Grimreaper entertains them. Thus proving Grimreaper’s point, that people put their self interests first.

    I’ll be completely honest: I don’t agree with what Grimreaper says, but I don’t block them because they don’t reduce my enjoyment of this site/community. I don’t require an echo chamber to function.

    My self-interest here, in the interests of transparency, is just passing time. You are free to believe I’m lying when I say that, or that I generally do not lie (it requires more effort than I care to give).
