Nothing. As a parent it’s my job to infodump about my kids to others.

But seriously, don’t ask questions about other kids, you don’t know what’s going on in their lives.

If something good happens we’ll tell you.

Yo what is so wrong about asking folks about their kids? Is parenting so tragic that its a minefield not worth stepping into (conversationally)?

It’s kind of weird to ask one person about another person when you could ask that person themselves. Kids quickly reach the stage where they’re capable of answering questions about themselves.

That only works when the child is present, though. If it’s a coworker, you might never meet their kid. And there’s far worse topics for smalltalk than children.
