They tried that in the 2000s in their desperate attempts to create the next Pirates-level franchise. Then they gave up and just started buying already-existing franchises. Now it seems that that didn’t work either, since Disney will always be Disney and will always suck the life out of everything they touch.
well, i mean, it did work for awhile. the Infinity Saga is like ten years worth of movies making stupid amounts of money. it was a cultural juggernaut.
but nothing lasts forever and i think that’s where the suits struggle. they want a sure thing, a formula, they can go back to forever. and not only does that not exist, it, as you said, sucks the life out of what they had and diminishes the residual good will.
Marvel Studios was already up and running before Disney was in the picture at all, producing their first couple of movies before the buyout and distributing the first phase and a half through Paramount. Even after Disney bought them, they still operated mostly independently until 2015 when there was a restructuring of its leadership that put it more directly under Disney’s control. By that point they had enough momentum that they were still able to close out the Infinity Saga before the rot really became noticeable, but that’s when the decline started.
In contrast, Lucasfilm wasn’t producing movies when Disney bought them so their entire modern structure was created after the buy-out, and as such they’ve been producing absolute crap from day one.
wow, it’s been so long i don’t even remember the pre-Disney MCU days. they bought them pretty early on though, so like it or not, it’s still mostly under the Mouse.

i reject your notion that all Disney SW is crap.
