At the same time, the proud vulgarity that courses through the movie feels like slight misdirection, a way to keep people in their seats while giving them another slightly more sophisticated narrative about privilege and power, deindustrialization and imbalanced labor relations, and a determination to be free even if you still have to serve somebody.
Insightful analysis of the movie. I also appreciate the study of its writer, Nancy Dowd.
Wonderful article, a great breakdown of what makes Slapshot so good.
After seeing the two other comments, I decided to watch the movie. It’s a damn good one, and I’d only even heard of it once or twice before. Quality article, too!
