I love the irony of this statement. I wonder if the Palantir CEO recognizes that a similar statement could be made about him, his company and Huang/Nvidia.
China, as I heard from Huang (if I understood him correctly) already does that by satisfying local needs of Graphical/AI acceleration chips with their own products.
Even I personally did that about Nvidia chips because of their chips are a complete head pain under the OS I use.
To my understanding, Chinese GPU compute products are nowhere close to Nvidia (more than 5 year behind, if not more, in an apples to apples comparison).
There is a huge distance between “We don’t have any substitute, so are forced to buy equipment from the enemy and keep our mouths shut” and “Our equipment is worse, so we must use more of the resources to achieve the same results. But we can still do it by ourselves, and we’re progressing too.”
I could be wrong on this, but from my understanding China’s current enterprise GPU performance is not really viable (and due to lack of access to ASML’s newer machines, this issue will only get worse).
