Lemmy 1.0 is backwards compatible with the current API v3. You can try it here. This uses the API from our test instance at voyager.lemmy.ml which runs the latest alpha version.
Piefed allows to disable notifications on posts and comments, that’s a quite handy feature
Same goes for Friendica afaik

On Voyager, Photon or Summit the experience is quite similar as the front-end stays the same.
I quite like Lemmy front-end but I don’t have the skills to make a fork that would work for Piefed.
I dislike the Lemmy front-end too. I use Alexandrite.

That’s good to hear, but I was more thinking about Alexandrite not supporting features introduced in Lemmy 1.0
