Same here. I always have a terminal open if i need it. I probably split my time 50/50 between GUI and CLI.
not sure why people think it’s one or the other when using linux
I use debian, btw

The last stu-3 stopped working in 2009.
Unfortunately we have a whole generaton of entitled babies who scream “paywall!!!” every time somebody asks for compensation for their work
I went looking for a developer mistake and epic Linus rant, but…
Tl;dr: it was Linus’ own mistake. He simply forgot to “cut the release”.
My desktop has been running debian for 5 years no problem including 2 major debian version upgrades, and a new(er) GPU.
I had an old laptop that ran the same debian install for 8 years. All upgrades in place, no reinstalls.
boring, and works. Stable + backports should cover the majority of people with new hardware support needs.
There’s a guy at work proudly reminiscing about how we had to fuck around with autoexec.bat and config.sys back in the day to get things to work
But refuses to use linux because CLI…
You know whats worse than doing things in windows command line or powershell? The registry
“Nooooo! I cant $sudo nano /etc/some.conf!!!”
Regedit -> HKEY_USERS/microsoft/windows/system/some_setting --> value=FUCK type=DWORD
But my chromecast transports digital signal to my DAC. Probably better quality than the DAC in the bluetooth speaker
I hate that i can no longer trust what comes out of my phone camera to be an accurate representation of reality. I turn off all the AI enhancement stuff but who knows what kind of fuckery is baked into the firmware.
NO, i dont want fake AI depth of field. NO, i do not want fake AI “makeup” fixing my ugly face. NO, i do not want AI deleting tourists in the background of my picture of the eiffel tower.
NO, i do not want AI curating my memories and reality. Sure, my vacation photos have shitty lighting and bad composition. But they are MY photos and MY memories of something i experienced personally. AI should not be “fixing” that for me
i bought a roomba 2 years ago. It wasnt the cheapest, but it was the only company that isnt some cheap, chinese knockoff brand. American designed and operated still had some advantages for me at the time.
This was before USA plunged into facism though. Now i’m not sure what i would buy.
They had two things going for them… Decent linux support and non-shitty DRM ink/toner
I think the problem is that a lot of people are just running flatpaks, dockers, and third party repos which might not be getting timely updates.
I try to stick to debian packages for everything as much as possible for this reason.
Read the post above mine… “Privacy respecting options” are almost always downstream forks of firefox. Abandon/kill the source, and downstream dries up
This needs to be higher up. We need firefox as an alternative to a chrome engine monopoly. ToS and telemetry are miniscule issues compared to what we are up against
Firefox is literally the last thing standing between google controlling the entire browser landscape and having control over all web standards (as if they dont already have too much influence)
People ditching firefox over tos, telemetry, AI, CEO pay, etc. are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Do i wish mozilla would stop doing stupid shit? Of course. But the alternative is far worse. Dont let perfect be the enemy of good. Mozilla will never be as ideologically pure as we want them to be, but that’s OK (for now)
I’ve been using NC since single digit version numbers
The performance increase on v30 is VERY noticeable, especially loading photos.
Wait… Are they the good guys now?
Also, porn.
Where is this abhorrent content? I need to know so i can avoid it…
So now we have to look both ways AND up to make sure some moron doesnt drop a car on my head?
Fuck that noise…
Sounds like NHTSA needs a visit from DOGE!
