  • The Western business mindset isn’t compatible with this approach. If you have a business that has 2 portions and only one is profitable you split it and dump the unprofitable part. If the government forces you to do both you just cut costs from the unprofitable train making everything shitty for everyone.

The Asian cultural Zeitgeist has more focus on stewardship so if someone gives you a responsibility (public transit) and a privilege (commercial hubs) you understand that the great power comes with the great responsibility. You’re still a capitalist and get rich as fuck, but society benefits too.

  • Racial Disparities: African Americans, Caucasians, and Hispanics each made up about 31% of asset forfeiture cases, indicating potential racial disparities in how civil forfeiture is applied

Cops stealing money from minorities, of course that’s legal. Steal infant formula to feed your baby? Straight to jail!

Let’s see $69 Billion. 62% comes from African and Hispanic Americans. That’s $41.4 Billion from those two groups which make up 102 million Americans combined. That’s $405 stolen from every African or Hispanic American man woman and child over 19 years.

    Serve and protect indeed. ACAB.

  • but would prefer to be coddled when I need it rather than when I don’t.

I think this line is your problem. I suspect your family has been very caring and attentive your whole life. They figured out what you need to be at your best, to not be overwhelmed, and to have a chance to go somewhere you can recharge when you’re out of energy. And they made it their job to provide you that set of needs so you can always be at your best.

Reading your post, I can’t honestly think your life would have been better in shared res accommodations. It sounds like you need your own personal space.

I don’t think they have any hope of knowing “when you need to be coddled” unless you communicate that clearly on a case by case basis. But I would take some time to think about each case seriously because it sounds like you don’t think you need a private room when your post makes it pretty clear you’d rather have your own space and choose to socialise with people you like when you want. In a shared room with bunks you are forced into social situations 24/7 with strangers or people you don’t like with no escape.

So yeah, take some time to think about the pros and cons, then once you make a choice communicate it clearly to your family. “I am an adult now. In restaurants I’m confident I can handle every aspect of the interaction from ordering to eating etc… Please don’t help me, even if you think I’m having a hard time in a restaurant setting. It’s important to me that I be independent in this setting. I know you’re doing it because you love me and want to help me, and I appreciate that. I’m asking for this because when I’m treated like that in public it makes me feel like a small child and it’s very disempowering. I still appreciate that you help me in other ways, I would still like that help if you’re still willing to offer it. As I feel I’m able to take more things on myself, I will continue letting you know like this”

As for your aunt, we all have that aunt. You just have to say no as many times as it takes lol and she won’t like it.

  • Recognising the “AI voice” isn’t just the voice. It’s also the clearly “written by AI” circuitous script that keeps talking without saying anything and non-stop clickbait “but wait until you find out what the answer is” crap.

The other type of AI voice is people just stealing Reddit stories and putting them to AI. Also lame. I want my stories narrated with human emotion. The point of stories isn’t to transfer knowledge, it’s an art form, I don’t need shitty robot emotions thank you very much.

So no, the use case for AI voice is very narrow. Some of my favorite YouTubers use text narration. Maybe they don’t like their voice, or speak a different language, I don’t know, I’ve literally never heard them. It doesn’t stop them in the least from showing me amazing things. They don’t need to resort to polluting their video with the lowest garbage idea humans have created so far.

I’d like to see a video that is improved by the use of any AI.

  • The idea of letting young engineers at a university design production equipment is WILD to me. Universities make PROTOTYPES. The gap between prototype and reliable production equipment is so big you could drive a bus through it.

A good production engineer is worth their weight in gold but when you have shitty ones you’re better off letting the workers run the ship. At least they know what’s happening and where the hangups are. You’ll know a good engineer because they’re down talking to the lead hands on the shop floor because they want to understand what’s actually happening and run ideas through the shop before they fuck with things.
