Monopolies are bad enough by themselves. But with google they own such a large part of the day to day web browsing experience it’s amazing it’s not worse than it already is.
Yeah, but as a swede myself I definitely know it’s a no no word especially as by that time other YouTube’s already had their own n-word controversies.
He’s had some controversial things. In 2017 he said the n-word while live streaming a game. The other big one I know of is he made a video where he showed he has paid one of those fiverr groups of Indian children to hold up a sign that said “death to all Jews”. Pewdiepie didn’t think they would actually do it.
They are really not great situations, and the second one I mentioned he should have realised was a bad idea and not done at all. Back in that 2017 era he positioned himself as an edgier meme YouTube, but he has since apologized and vastly changed his content, and i personally believe he’s a very changed person from a decade ago. But the stigma has stuck around.
That is so bitter sweet. I got a pizza thief of my own, I hope she has many good years left in her, but I will keep your husky in mind.
I do unfortunately still use it for my VR sim racing. But half of that is because I got a quest 3 as an entry point for VR. I’d love to get one where you don’t have to fiddle around with video compression and WiFi latency.
I would personally recommend popos or mint. I have varying amount of experience with the others.
Bazzite is very hyped on Lemmy, I don’t quite understand how it works, it seems good for what it is, but I don’t know if I would recommend it as someone’s first Linux daily driver.
Manjaro seems great most of the time, until the maintainers mess something up and royally screw up your system. But that’s just things I’ve heard, your milage will vary.
Nobara worked really well for me, but ultimately I wasn’t very comfortable to use a distro maintained by one guy, even if that guy is glorious egg roll.
I personally use popos. I wish it was fedora based like Nobara, but you can’t have it all. Wow works straight out the box. There are appimages or deb packages for warcraft logs and curse as well, so they work fine.
Pen and paper maths I’m pretty decent at, but ask me to calculate anything in my head and it’s anyone’s guess if I remembered to carry the 1 or not. Ever since learning about aphantasia I’m wondering if the lack of being able to visually store values has something to do with it.
Looks like Warzone is one of the unfortunate ones, the kernel level anti cheat currently stops it from working on Linux.
Reka (added to my wishlist 😄) seems to run well. If it will run straight out the box or not seems to be a little hit and miss. You can check any troubleshooting steps on protondb. This shows Linux isn’t quite at the “it just works” stage. But for this title if you do run into an issue it seems like an easy fix.
Cyberpunk runs really well. I haven’t had to tweak anything for my install.
I have a very extensive steam, gog, and battle.net library with all kinda of games from wolfenstein 3D to Baulders Gate 3. The only game I haven’t been able to run is Ground Control 2, but that doesn’t work on windows 10 (possible a USB device issue). Unless you play a game with an anti cheat that explicitly deny Linux (the only one I know off the top of my head that does that is Fortnite) you are most likely good to go. I’m quite a performance/fps snobb, and I haven’t found any game that runs worse on Linux either.
There’s a difference between lossy and lossless. You can compress anything down to a single bit if you so wish, just don’t expect to get everything back. That’s how lossy compression works.
Hm, the the absolute least scary option would be to try it out on a live bootable USB. That’s not difficult, it’s the first step before installing pretty much any modern distro.
The second least but slightly more technically advanced would be to get a second hard drive and install Linux on that completely separately from your windows install. The technical part here is your BIOS will have a default boot drive and will boot from there on start up, so you would need to interrupt the boot and select which OS you want.
I personally went with the second option, as dual booting from the same had drive is a minefield with windows, as they have a tendency to wreck the Linux boot part. But when I swapped, I set the default boot to my Linux hard drive to get in the habit of using it, and if I ever need anything from windows nowadays (only VR) I select that on boot.
How easy is it to get gaming on Debian (as OP mentioned occasional gaming)? I use Popos myself, so all nvidia drivers and gamemode and such works out the box.
Huh. I’ve never seen much slight of hand magic in person, and until now I wouldn’t have thought that would be my reaction. But I can totally see a 1-on-1 close up performance like that feeling very invasive.
Well. They can stop updating the open source code, create manifest v4 and now all chromium browsers are shit out of luck.
One issue with that is China is still a heavily bike and moped driven country. The issue is when more of their population is able to afford cars. So they could still “catch up”.
That’s the more vicious part of it. How do we know what this experience they want to serve us is. A more pessimistic read could be they sell everything we type to ad companies and claim targeted ads are totally enhancing our experience.
I read it as “you type a URL in the address bar, we’ll take you there. You want to search for something using the search bar? We got you, we’ll forward your search to the search engine of your choice. All free of charge.”
It’s just worded in such generic legal wording it makes you gag. But them pointing it out so explicitly just makes me more suspicious lol. I think it’s fine for now, just another wall of text to keep an eye on for any future modifications.
Can’t believe you didn’t build a little outpost on that mountain!
I would rather you guys lower the drinking age to 18…
