  • The way your describing this isn’t quite clear. I think you have something crossed. There are a series of videos by Lawrence Systems on YouTube where he walks through basic to complicated PFsense configurations. I think it’s worth watching. What your trying to do is setup two vlans I think? They probably don’t have access to the WAN which you need to allow as this is not the default.

It seems complicated but making firewall rules makes sense once you get the hang of it. The best part of home labbing is learning though it usually requires breaking some stuff in the meantime. All part of the journey. You’ll get there, have fun.

  • Not to say I’m not annoyed and they definitely should not be doing this except for their enterprise line. Would I buy another Synology again, no definitely not.

However most “consumers” buying a NAS are already pretty tech savvy. When this issue happened to me I googled it and found and applied the script in 15 or so minutes. Run the script essentially once a year or so when major updates come along. Hasn’t been a huge issue. The issue will be if /when they block this script or other fixes.

  • I basically run this setup, Synology nas for storage and a nuc12 for proxmox. Things like pihole I run on both for HA. You will also have a much better experience using Plex on an Intel NUC with quick assist.

As mentioned above the helper scripts will save you a ton of time. You should definitely check them out. Proxmox allows you to easily backup and restore. So its much easier to tinker and play around without taking down the whole network.

  • When connected through wireguard can you access anything on the local network?

Also sometimes if you’re on an LAN trying to vpn into itself you get weird network issues. Does this issue also happen when you’re on another network and vpning back?

Also there’s a lot of great videos on YouTube to set this up things like Lawrence systems and network Chuck.

Not exactly sure what the issue is here but gave you the up vote for visability and hopefully someone smarter then me will know.

  • Yeah I think that’s a fair take. Again it’s not a perfect show and as you pointed out if you’re expecting the x files here you’ll be disappointed. I think the enjoyment of this show really comes from the chemistry and interaction with the characters. The plot has its ups and downs like many over the air tv shows. IMDB has over 46,000 reviews so I think it’s hard to argue the show wasn’t generally well liked, though of course it’s not for everyone. This will definitely not go down as one of the best shows of all time not even close but that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable to watch.

  • Question if you didn’t finish watching the show then how would you know if plot points weren’t resolved? I think you’re confusing that for a season end cliff hanger? I’d finish the show before ranting too much. This is not a Netflix original show it aired on normal TV. I don’t remember off hand but the show has been on for a few years. There’s a lot of shows with an “off” season that happened around COVID or a writers strike that may be season 2 here?

I personally enjoyed the show it’s not meant to be a deep thinking or life changing show just entertaining with some light scares which it accomplished. If you like the characters and their chemistry you’ll enjoy the show. If you’re expecting a deep thinking life changing experience here, yes you’ll be disappointed. The ending is okay but didn’t leave me angry and seems to close things up well enough.

I think most would enjoy the show ( though of course not everyone). I think its rating on IMDb and rotten tomatoes is fairly accurate. The show is exactly as advertised.

  • Just honestly asking Im not a statistician. From a lay person looking high level this seems weird. The conclusion also does not match up with insurance prices that I’ve personally seen nor correspond with my experience.

I’m here for discussion not trying to put anyone down. Could someone just explain to me what I’m missing. No need to downvote. So if you take a non random sample of data how can you extrapolate that out so much? Does this data line up with other people’s data? What am I missing?

  • Okay that kind of makes sense. There is a problem though, well three.

Imagine you live in a small town. Something happens (COVID for instance) and your town becomes popular and your land value goes up. Yesterday your house was worth 100k but now it’s worth 500k+. Your saying those people should essentially be forced out of their homes? To be bought up by rich people?

Additionally this means only the super rich would be able to afford homes? This tax would essentially mean only the top 1% could have a home and basically give them a free for all on any land they want. Why would we want that?

Lastly if you increased land tax by that much landlords would have to increase rent prices to offset this? So even with a govt subsidy the renter is still the person paying this increase.

Honestly I’m intrigued by this idea but once you start thinking about how it would work it falls apart. There is probably some variation of this that could work. Maybe in cities they’ll be an extratax if you don’t build some sort of minimum housing? But this is already pretty similar to just basic property taxes.

  • I don’t understand how would a 100% land tax work? If you own a 300k house you’d have to pay 300k in taxes every year? So basically making housing unaffordable except for the ultra rich?

Also why would anyone build apartments if they weren’t going to make a profit? What’s the incentive? No one would do anything if they couldn’t make money doing it.

If landlords are bad or too expensive why not move, another building another state another lower cost of living area? Agreed rents are super high but that’s mostly in dense urban areas. You’re paying a premium for location.

I’m really not seeing any honest answers here about how to fix this problem. Besides the government should provide everyone free housing? How would that work how would you decide who gets to live where? Who gets the apartment on the lake vs next to the airport/oil refinery?

Like I get it housing is expensive but I haven’t seen anything here that would actually help fix that? Ironically more landlords and more apartments would probably help.
