Nobody deserves harassment and abuse for changing the name of something.

Perhaps when the time comes to fork the project we can avoid a slur as a name? That would be nice.

Sadly this was already tried and the developers of the fork were abused and harassed as foss and tech obsessives hate being called out for things and folks solving the problem themselves.

Well, it is still considered that by disabled people and that is who really matters in all this.

GIMP is a slur for people with disabilities, therefore it isn’t a name many professional artists, nor those that care about ableism will like.

It’s a great program, but my goodness their online interface for entering actual track and record information is ridiculously difficult to use and their rules for titles etc are bad.

Nobody currently alive is going to accept private property entering a gray area where if you produce with it, suddenly it’s not your property any more.

Speak for yourself, there are plenty of people alive that would be fine with there being no more private property. Personal property isn’t the same thing, and it’s fine producing something with it, there would be tools available to all to rent out or use, what’s so wrong with that? In fact tool libraries already exist, as do worker owned co-ops.

Sadly Odysee being a place for freedom of speech in practise just means more hate speech, bigotry and fascism which is why we will never recommend it over peertube which is well moderated by actual people.

This is exactly why we should be letting those who upload to youtube know that peertube exists and how to use it!

So far we only have a desire to be on mastodon or gotosocial (if we ever figure out how to run our own server).

We are aware that there is other microblogging software on fedi, but we are happy on mastodon for now, as the people we want to be around are explicitly on servers running mastodon.

We can hope mastodon will do a rewrite, but yes, even if not we sadly agree. Still they should very much consider it, if only as a matter of principal.
