This site isn’t going to get popular enough to worry about. It’s large, sure, but people go to reddit because the sheer volume of users means your chances of catching breaking stories or real contributions by witnesses to events, is just much higher, there’s more of everything, and this is why they want to bleed it dry.
I mean, leave it up the one of the greatest creative minds of all time to predict that our AI will be unpredictable and emotional. The man invented the communication satellite and wrote franchises that are still being lined up to make into major hollywood releases half a century later.

I consider myself very average, and all my average interactions with AI have been abysmal failures that are hilariously wrong. I invested time and money into trying various models to help me with data analysis work, and they can’t even do basic math or summaries of a PDF and the data contained within.
I was impressed with how good the things are at interpreting human fiction, jokes, writing and feelings. Which is really weird, in the context of our perceptions of what AI will be like, it’s the exact opposite. The first AI’s aren’t emotionless robots, they’re whiny, inaccurate, delusional and unpredictable bitches. That alone is worth the price of admission for the humor and silliness of it all, but certainly not worth upending society over, it’s still just a huge novelty.

Latest research is suggesting that the observer from the pole’s perspective sees the far door open before the near door, basically reversing the order of events. You also cannot choose the spins of entangled particles, they collapse randomly in either direction when interacted with, meaning you cannot send messages. If you can figure out how to directly influence the spin of generated subatomic particles then BAM you have FTL communication.
But you would be amazed how many obstacles the universe throws in front of you when you try to break the speed of causality. Faster than light communication isn’t possible because it makes no sense when you understand it. It’s like “getting answers faster than questions.” It’s nonsense.
I limited my internet time to just an hour or two a day and stopped caring about any of this worthless performative BS.
If there are causes you care about or actions you want to take to impact the world and make a difference, GOING THE FUCK OUTSIDE does so, so much more than this kind of roleplay teenage bullshit. But going out and donating a box of socks and underwear to a community food bank will literally change someone’s life.

Yeah, this is a terminally online manifesto that I couldn’t even get through. It’s roleplay and storytelling, which is what our species is great at, but it doesn’t connect with reality beyond that.
Look guys, if you want to engage in some kind of organized social action that will actually make a difference, turn off social media entirely. You moving from reddit to lemmy feels good in a micro-narrative, but nobody cares, it won’t change anything for anyone. It’s not bad, but it’s not some heroic action either.
You can do so, so much more for the causes you care about by GOING THE FUCK OUTSIDE.

It’s wild how the people who are most eager to profess their own intellect are always the ones who can’t communicate worth shit and are completely ruled by reactionary responses and surging emotions. Again, it’s ok. You fit right in with most American median voters. Pull up a chair and take a number. All the numbers are #1 so you feel important and special just like everyone else.

General strike is the way to go.
While you’re right that this is what will change course for the nation, not many people get is exactly WHAT a “general strike” really is.
There is no possible way we can get enough people on board with toppling the current administration that they will shut down basically the whole world. A general strike shuts down everything and I mean EVERYTHING. The amount of economic damage an event like this could do is astronomical, factories will burn, shipping lanes will choke, services will go out.
Ideally it would only last a couple days, but a general strike is basically a military action by a nation’s citizens, an organized resistance that crushes a country’s entire function. When the wealthy suddenly stop making money, it can permanently ruin them because of the way capital is tied through everything. They really, really don’t want to see even less-general strikes, and will do everything imaginable to prevent it from happening.
Spoken like someone who’s been to countless protests and organized community events. Countless.
The only problem with accelerationism, is that sometimes it accelerates in a direction we didn’t expect or want.
It’s very possible that whatever terrible consequences befall our political body have been planned well in advance by people smarter than us, or those in the cameras, and this whole thing is the groundwork for actually seizing and abolishing democracy.
Best case, we depose a wanna-be despot because things go to shit.

I mean, everyone has been crying and whinging for years, decades even, that the USA needs to ramp up semiconductor fabrication in case shit goes south in Taiwan. The only thing worse than the tech-bro’s worshiping AI like it’s the next messiah and we all must pave way for this revolutionary technology that will only seem to benefit white Americans with disposable income, are the people on the opposite end of the spectrum who are have a hysterical hatred for LLM’s because their favorite Youtube streamers are getting clicks by ranting about how bad AI is. They are not being personally impacted by AI at all but are delusional enough to think that there will be laws and regulations and that AI will be “banned” if we all “raise awareness” and it’s about as useful as the Bud Lite protests but not even remotely as entertaining.
Reddit’s mechanics are not the whole story about why it became the juggernaut it is, the platform of people making their own forums isn’t new. What happened was a few major sites like Digg, Somethingawful, Fark, 4chan and a lot of old-school staples on the internet from the 90’s on through the 2010’s suddenly lost popularity as their user base matured at the same time reddit moved in. There were other factors, sure I was around during it all but it’s all quite complicated, but I’m pretty sure if reddit broadly started returning 404’s tomorrow, Lemmy would see a slight jump in users but people are just going to want the next new thing and it would be some entirely new thing that captures the world’s online browsing.
I’ve never seen a website replace another by copying it’s layout and mechanics. I’ve seen a lot of popular platforms die, but never resurrect in the same form, people always want something novel and they want to feel like they’re getting in ground-floor on something special. Reddit still offers that by giving users a chance to contribute early to conversations about current events, but if there were a new system that gave people a similar system and found some other way to give users a little serotonin boost like the votes do, then it would slay reddit pretty handedly.
