Chatmail servers (stripped down email servers that run faster than traditional mail servers and allow only encrypted email, basically eliminating spam) are free to use. You don’t need to use a traditional email provider and delta chat devs encourage chatmail servers instead. (By default you are onboarded on a chatmail server)

These still use the email protocol, making them hard to block by govs, but act more like relays as they only store the messages while in transit.

They are not the same usecase. Matrix tries to have large public groups with message histories similar to Discord where as Delta Chat is more like WhatsApp, covering mostly private conversations in 1:1 or small groups.

Most importantly, the pipeline from finding a question on SO that you also have, to answering that question after doing some more research is now completely derailed because if you ask an AI a question and it doesn’t have a good answer you have no way to contribute your eventual solution to the problem.
