And the percentage of violent offenders in our prison system is severely out of proportion to those of the nonviolent variety who make up the bulk of our inmate population.

I ask because my Kindle library is fairly extensive and giving it up would be uncomfortable to say the least.

The problem is that the rich actually do fear for their lives. That’s why they have literal armies to protect them. We are unfortunately in an age where even if literally half the country stood up to openly rebel they would be annihilated by our juiced up military that we’ve been paying for for the last century.

There will always be a niche market for independent PC builders. This article pertains more to the smartphone market which have extremely proprietary hardware. I suspect that with Google locking down android, a niche market for non-Android/iOS phones will emerge.

Just look at the LibrePhone project and GrapheneOS announced a partnership with a major phone manufacturer to design a phone around their specifications.

So long as there is a market for such things, alternatives will exist.

Though, the caveat here is that the price of phones not produced with a partial purpose of collecting user data will be quite a bit more expensive than the mainstream phones that give discounts just to get their phones into the hands of consumers on whom they make most of their money trading user data out the back end.

What “trusted” platform? Google play store? Their rules are lax as all fuck. And if you download an app from a reputable company and it has malware in it you have the Better Business Bureau to turn to. Otherwise buyer beware, scammers exist.

The difference isn’t actually in the operating system. iOS is just as vulnerable to such things. The difference is in how the app store is run. Apple locks down there app store so that it’s much more difficult to get malicious apps added. Google is extremely less thorough. Which is one of the reason many of us choose Android. When you choose more freedom the price is more vigilance is necessary to secure yourself and your phone.

Yes that’s why you verify the safety and security of the apps you’re installing on your phone and don’t just go, “ooo, this looks cool, let’s download it and try it out”. This is especially true if you are installing FOSS apps.
