I think the better comparison (whether that’s technically accurate or not) is to HTML + CSS + JS. Which is overly complicated for just small blogs and personal webpages etc. I think that’s the “issue” Gemini is trying to solve.
They are called digital audio players / DAPs nowadays. Theres a wide variety of them. Also you can also buy a used ipod or a sony walkman. I use an iPod nano, though that’s would be a bit of a hassle without macos.
The modded ipod classics are kinda cool, larger storage and open source software. And no bluetooth if you are concerned about that.

I don’t and I’m 30. Almost anything before the age of 7 and quite little between 7 and 14.
But AFAIK most people do remember quite some stuff from their childhood for the rest of their life. And forget some of course. I guess it varies.

That portmanteu is horrific

It is really easy to mirror git repos though, which makes this less of an issue than most other monopolies

Oh do I love linear extrapolation, 200% renewables by 2076, lets gooo😎🔥
Gamers are a bit more tech savvy than average people tho
The other option is that anybody who recommends Lemmy, actually just recommends an instance. Make an account on examplelemmyserver.org and download the app XYZ should be the go-to recommendation. Not ”there are so many cool options”.

Apart from the obvious ones of like, getting a visa and difficulty of getting a passport, in rough order of my completely non-scientific guesstimate

Paywalls only move this to the consumer:
If art doesn’t make you money, only rich people can make art.
Under the current system, you can make money making art, but only access it if you’re not poor (or pirate it lol).
Either way, much of art becomes an image of the experiences of rich people, either through the artists themselves or the audience.
A more fundamental change is needed if you really want to solve this issue.

I’ll be the enlightened centrist here: yes, let’s all try to spell words correctly, and no, do not unpromptedly correct other people’s spelling if you understood what they meant
Git repo that I sync with my raspberry pi. You never know if some of the dotfiles contain sensitive info so I like to keep them on machines that only I can access

Well, you never actually addressed the points. But if expecting that is “being a dick”, well, whatever…

Reply point by point:
Also, who’s doing the strawmanning here? I said that “phones are useful devices that people rely on, while [smart glasses] are not”. Then, you went on a tirade how I said that smart glasses are “marginally convenient” instead of “literally useless”.
Did I say that they are literally useless? Or rather, implied that they are something along the lines of “marginally convenient”, thus not being “useful devices that people rely on”?
Also, I did not say anything about equivalence. I said “more akin to”. Which you took as literal equivalence.

Can you read? If yes, read my previous comment.

See my previous comment about strawmanning, mr. “I learned about logical fallacies 5 days ago”
EDIT: So mad you come and check the replies within 5 minutes just to downvote?

If it makes you happy you can think you won the argument

Yeah, sure, you just claimed that I strawmanned their argument… Cmon.

This is the wildest pedantry I’ve witnessed in a while.
I have a few (internal) web pages like that at work, they do the job but yes they are ugly
