Sadly, I never learned any of those games. I was an only child that had nobody to teach me any of those sort of games as a kid.

I remember my parents bought me Chutes and Ladders when I was 5, apparently nobody realized it’s meant as a multiplayer game. Trying to figure it out for myself, I got bored in like 10 minutes.

Monopoly? Go Fish? UNO? Hah, not a chance, nobody bothered to teach me any of those.

I’ve never been the sort of person to ask or insist anyone to display a particular expression. But…

At times I’ve encountered friends, both male and female, that were struggling in life and crying.

Sometimes I would smile at them and say “Hey, you’re leaking again”

I almost always got them to lift their spirits and smile, with a bit of a lighthearted chuckle even.

Though not a moment I’d take a photo of, out of respect, it still reminds me how easy it can be to get a friend to smile.

Ah, you actually bothered with the level builder? I never quite got that deep into it, but I’ve looked into it, might even have a copy of that buried somewhere on an old backup HDD.

I never found the extra free time to try that out though, I just stuck with the stock levels.

Indeed, the game can be rather tricky to navigate. The guide bot was a really neat addition, but even without that, you do know Descent from day one has a map mode that shows areas you’ve explored right?

There ain’t a goddamn thing united about these fucking states, except they let you temporarily cross the borders for a few days or couple weeks or so. God forbid you have any issues out of your registered home state though, you’re basically fucked.

Wait, what about D2 bothered you? Was it that stupid thief bot? If so, yeah totally agreed, that addition sucks, but the rest of D2 is awesome to me. I even got the source code and compiled it to run natively on Linux.

Yes indeed, absolutely! I was able to test it on my shitty laptop for a short moment, and the graphics are absolutely amazing, even at lowest quality and resolution.

Sadly I only got like 3 frames per second on my piece of shit laptop, and I can’t afford to build a high end rig these days. ☹️

Still, an absolutely amazing game, if your hardware can properly handle it…

Back in 2009, I picked up a copy of reverse engineered source code for the original PSP Chotto Shot camera. Once I got it to actually compile (code formatting issues), I proceeded to read through what had already been reversed engineered, looking for the unknown/reserved variables.

And sure enough, when I went fiddling with a few supposedly reserved variables, I discovered that one of them triggered super slow exposure mode, basically poor man’s night vision!

I never had a chance to share those findings with the PSPHacks community at the time though, it wasn’t long after when their site got shut down ☹️

Lemmy, and the Fediverse in general, is an open source social media made by people that have evolved past the corporate overlords.

The user base might be smaller than big social media sites, but the users tend to be more intelligent, far fewer bots, and no advertisements.

That’s my take on it so far, I’ve been here over a year now.
