But I would say signal is very safe while being more convenient.

I use biometrics to access some of the apps on my phone. But my home screen requires a password to unlock.
Yeah, my point was that it could be made better eventually it would be safe enough to use.
I could probably have my phone on airplane mode all the time and no one would notice, I never pick up anyones calls to begin with.
Public transport pretty much always works everywhere that isn’t a country town with like 5 people living there, and at that point you could just walk or ride around.
If there is low demand you can start with a small community bus, then increase the amount of buses and lines. Increase the size of the bus. Then maybe build a tram line etc…
I’m not saying your govenment will do this but it is almost always possible and faster, safer and more comfortable. Unless you really enjoy driving or prefer the privacy that it offers (debatable but still somewhat valid) in which case public transport and other viable alternatives to driving is still the only real way to reduce traffic for drivers.
I don’t have mullvadvpn but I use a different vpn that has obfuscation and I have tried every single setting within it but somehow some networks can still detect the vpn no matter what I try. I am not sure how they can do this.
At least by turning on airplane mode they cannot track your location.
Using public wifi with no protections is already pretty secure since most things are encrypted now days. Using a trusted vpn to encrypt all of your traffic makes it almost perfect, since no people in the same network as you can have the faintest clue as to what your doing.
edit: It’s probably not almost perfect but definetly far better than using mobile data.

Mildly unrelated point that I wanted to say here, ive found that I can now find the answers to a lot of my questions by putting lemmy in the search bar instead of reddit. There definetly arent as many results but they are usually higher quality than redits.

At this point “uses signal” is all the metadata they need.

Mindustry, great open source game. Although it was so addictive I ended up deleting it. Now I don’t have any games on my phone.

And most phones are shipped with software that is often difficult to change.

Way ahead of me

China is a country that doesn’t care about the individual.
Literally a country dictated by it’s individuals
Yes. I have an s22 and am stuck with it just like you, I would love a google pixel.
I have gone through all the “trouble” of doing all that and it’s definetely worthwhile, you can get rid of a lot of unessesary things. Definetly DON’T sign up for a samsung account, although it will try very hard to make you sign up.
F-droid isn’t a pain, it’s an awesomeness. Everytime you try to download a simple app like a stopwatch or something it’s usually really bad and littered with spyware and ads, the developers who make these apps don’t use the apps themselves. The quality of F-droid apps and other open source apps are so much better while having better privacy.

To extend that, people that have there notification sound on all the time is really annoying, just leave it on vibrate it’s just as useful!
I guess it could be a decent consideration if I can find a way to anonymously get a sim, not really much point otherwise.
I live in Australia. The social media ban for under 16’s was not successful at all. (this is anecdotal) Majority of social media platforms did not get effectively eradicated (including ticktock, instragram etc…) for under 16s. And at least snapchat (and maybe others) did get properly banned but then a few months later under 16s could log straight back on again with no issues.
Opinion time: even if the social media ban was regulated properly it still likely wouldn’t be effective, sure children that abide by the law and aren’t completely addicted will stop using social media. But the children that are properly addicted and need help are going to find ways around the ban, like using vpn’s and get driven underground being less likely to seek help since there is now an extra reason for it to be considered shameful. Just like banning drugs, banning social media doesn’t solve the issue.
I think an intelligent Marxist (not me) needs to do a proper class analysis on this I have found individual articles that have shown links between the social media ban and the gambling industry. And the gambling industry doesn’t give a crap about weather or not the ban is successful they just want a public distraction from laws that prevent the gambling industry taking advantage of the working class.
I see that your Australian too, I am interested what information shows the social media ban to be successful, I could be wrong but I think it’s safe to assume in most situations an apparent win for workers is disguised as a win for capital.
