No finished project without some force that provided the focus to get it done.
How can any feeling of accomplishment fill the mind when there is the bad feeling of being forced?

Nothing is necessary in particular, but a choice among options.
We desensitize people to compassion, we dogwhistle people into racism, we train people to ignore dishonesty, we make people comply with authority even if they are wrong, we make people believe in science instead of understanding it, and some more.
This is to make people accept their jobs and create the things that are needed.
In general, people don’t do stuff on their own. So overall the manipulation is needed if we want to have more than hunter gathering. This can be seen as malicious, but also as benevolent.
Is rumored that the Target self check cameras show you the most unflattering image of yourself so that you will want to avoid stealing and getting that photo on the news.

Mobile phones constantly reveal the location to the cell towers. There is no need for an app. This is just mind games.
Google can predict traffic jams because they know the location of everybody. Nobody cares about tracking as long as they can ignore it. The app makes ignoring difficult.
join-lemmy.org could show the posts from all, with a big join button at the top. The introduction page can be shown if somebody presses the join button.
There is one server implementation that shows it to its users. I forgot its name though.
Are most people ok with what is coming or do they just lack the capacity to prevent it?
Responsibility cannot be delegated. People are always responsible to keep themselves safe. But it makes sense for them to cooperate in a society to organize their safety.
The problem is that manipulation is part of society. For society to work, people must be unaware of some manipulations but then, manipulators can abuse the blind spots.
Overall it’s a cost benefit decision. Some abuse can be easier prevented by regulations, some by personal responsibility.
So far, what do you think ADHD is?
There is only one choice: feeling or rationality.
When you feel, you do what feels best.
When you think, you do what is the most valuable.
So no free will but that choice.
Can ADHD be almost the right way to handle undesired work?
If one doesn’t want to do work, it’s straight forward to not do it. If that isn’t allowed then doing everything else is the closest thing to avoiding that work. In that sense, ADHD is either a way of avoiding to be broken or the inability to integrate work into one’s accepted goals.
How could it be possible to accept work that one doesn’t want to do?
Because it represents the tipping point where America lost its dominance. Starbucks doesn’t sell coffee but an affordable access to experiencing the American way of life.
If Starbucks loses its appeal it means that people stop looking up to America. Students won’t dream of becoming a scientist in America, business men won’t long for participating in the American economy, consumers don’t care about buying American products for being American.
All American products from now on have to compete on quality and service. This changes the value of the products and the value of the work that American workers deliver.
The latter made me aware of the former.
Like always, google is doing things for free to get training data.
All things are going into an authoritarian direction which needs control of the opposition. Google will have the infrastructure to identify people with opposing mindsets. There won’t be a rebellion if the rebel leaders can be locked up in time.
The biggest pill was that I am not intelligent. I was just studious and invested enough time to pass exams. People not doing what they should do is not them being stupid but me not grasping the full picture.
The second biggest pill that I am still swallowing is that I am not a good person. I try to behave in a good way, but it’s manipulative and not authentic. People don’t like goodness if it doesn’t come from the heart.
Also, when you finally say “no” to them, they act as though you’re a terrible person.
To them, it looks like they are the only person to which you say no. This means that you say no because of them. People don’t like being questioned like that.
Add some assurance that the no is not personal.
Capitalism is also a symptom, a symptom of an intellligence and knowledge imbalance.
People need to be informed and organized to prevent being abused. If they are, they can run a socialist or communist country, or tax their oligarchs without being scammed into losing power.
Some people, e.g. ML, know how to defeat the oligarchs. The majority is not willing to learn and implement it. Even if there has been a revolution, the majority most likely will not stay sharp to prevent a decline.
If the oligarchs are willling to transition into another form of society, they don’t have anything that could take over.
Totally. Only that I postponed the thing I had to do for even longer.
Your post made me realize that I postpone because I am afraid of hyperfixating. When I hyperfixate I do things that I don’t want to be do, but that have to be done to make them right.
Like I expected, when I finally did what I had to do, I found something that was not right, and spent some additional time on it without being able to let go.
Here is an older thought about it: Could it be that ADHD is an identity thing? Essentially like transsexual but for being and not sex. Hyperfocussing is like wearing a mask, not out of fear of social reactions but from the inability of maintaining my identity. I lost my day by being afraid of experiencing being-dysphoria. It only ends when the fear of the consequences of inaction are bigger than the fears of dysphoria.
What do you mean?
