Yeah but… will they actually remember where they buried their acorns?
Sometimes the best teacher is experience :)
I have two… these are from the old days of computing :)
One: guy said his monitor was showing wavy lines on the screen (old CRT monitor days). Went to his office, looked at his monitor. Sure enough wavy lines. Looked the top of his monitor. Removed the clock sitting on top of said monitor, no more wavy lines. Don’t put electric clocks on CRT monitors folks.
Two: working in a school system. Just before classes started. Get a call “none of the computers turn on”. Go to the classroom. Check a few machines. Machines “turned on” but didn’t boot the OS. Listen to one of the machines… hmmm, no drive noise. Tap it with the back of a screwdriver. Drive spins up, computer boots. Later found out that it was a semi-known problem with Seagate drives. If they sat to long without use, the heads would get stuck.
For 0 you may want to check out Revolt. Similar to Discord… not as polished / stable though.
If you run Discord groups the switch may be easy. If others run the groups… the “I told you so…” comment would still apply 🙂
Not affiliated with, just trying to promote alternatives when possible.

Seems folks are thinking about it but… getting traction for these types of projects will be the real challenge. I’m not affiliated with either. I was just curious and did a quick search.
Would definitely use something like this if it comes to fruition.
Go for a drive, find a shady looking place to eat, eat something really bad for me and desert.
Head home, play some video games, play some drums, chill… no reason (for me) to make it a big deal.
Assuming that a profile is enough to understand someone. Sure, don’t waste time/drag out meeting someone but… actually talk (video chat) and ask questions before you move things along.
Ask questions important to you and what you are looking for.
thank you for the link! i will set aside some time tonight to check it out. i can only imagine the number of different mindsets / attitudes and such in a single game, let alone different games.
edit 2024/11/17 - watched this last night and it was great! I don’t know a lot about WoW, but it was interesting all the same. i was struck by how much research was done against the game. also, how the player influencing the game and vice versa happened over time. the comments on how players reacted to those less skilled was interesting. for me it gives a different perspective on interactions. again, thank you!!
Just a suggestion but take a look at this list… all of them should be either open source or at least free (trials, lite versions, etc.).
Find out what you use at work and see if there’s a trial version or if they use open source.
If not most of these tools are known and you may be able to find help online (forums, Lemmy, Reddit, etc.).
