Emergency room staff are trained look for signs of abuse and self abuse. It doesn’t matter how aware a patient is if they can’t be left alone without deliberately harming themselves.

Uhm… “Cognizance” can be revoked. Involuntary hospitalization is real. I lived it. It is allowed.
