This feels like PR bullshit to make people feel like AI isn’t all that bad. Assuming what they’re releasing is even true. Not like cigarette, oil, or sugar companies ever lied or anything and put out false studies and misleading data.
However, there are still details that the company isn’t sharing in this report. One major question mark is the total number of queries that Gemini gets each day, which would allow estimates of the AI tool’s total energy demand.
Why wouldn’t they release this. Even if each query uses minimal energy, but there are countless of them a day, it would mean a huge use of energy.
Which is probably what’s happening and why they’re not releasing that number.
“It’s low cost, low on energy resources, and frees up the VFX team to work in other areas.”
From the article:
and rather than contract a studio of visual effects artists to create the footage, Netflix used generative AI to create it.
Yeah, it sure freed that VFX team from getting paying jobs.
Looks interesting. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!
Yeah, it’d be cool to see a movie where Superman is shown to deal with the mental struggle that it is to have a normal life while being aware of millions of crimes being committed at all times.
How does he deal with it? How can he enjoy a coffee and relax while he can literally hear a child being raped or something?
That’s what the story of a character like Superman should be about. At least the first story.
Maybe when he’s young and has to come to terms with the fact that he will have to let people suffer horribly if he wants to have a normal life. With someone with as much empathy as Superman, that’d be hell.
Maybe it wouldn’t make a good movie but a good graphic novel. Maybe it’s been done. I haven’t read many Superman comics.
It’s definitely AI. It released like 5 albums in 2025.
If only lemmy posts showed up on search engines, reddit would be finished.
This doesn’t eliminate the paradox. Why does the contract exist in the first place?
It’s a moral standard. If moral people didn’t decide that tolerance was a good thing for society, the contract wouldn’t exist.
So yes, thinking about it as a contract sidesteps the paradox, but the paradox still exists.
So Karl Popper was still right and society shouldn’t tolerate the intolerant.
The simple solution is that there is no “evil.”
I like the story The Egg by Andy Weir. It gives an example of that idea.
Alan Watts also talks a lot about that sort of thing.
Piracy is the best thing that happened to anime. Without it, anime and Japan wouldn’t be nearly as popular.
They’re shooting themselves on the foot. People discover anime and manga through piracy, and then if they love it, they end up spending money on it.
Just look at Berserk. I bet 90% of people who spent money on the mangas and all the deluxe editions discovered it through “illegal” means.
Disinformation. Misinformation is when it’s unintentional.
