  • “Well, we raided his mom’s house and confiscated all his cobbled-together e-waste.”

    “And!?”

“His drives were encrypted. Apparently he ‘applied PQC patches to dm-crypt himself’, whatever that means. All I know is that it made the guys from NSA scream. There was nothing we could do.”

    “So we’ve got nothing?”

“Oh no. He happily gave us both the keyfile and the passphrase.”

    “So…?”

“No warez, no CSA, no political manifestos or illicit recipes. Not even tax evasion - it’s not like he has an income. Just… copyleft source code as far as the eye could see.”

  • So, I guess nVidia finally ran out of companies to play financial musical chairs with. Microsoft just can’t find anymore janitorial closets to pack full of excess GPUs, so nVidia finally has no choice but to see if they can’t get consumers in on it. Gotta keep that merry-go-round spinning a little longer.

  • Whenever that has happened, post-mortem analysis has indicated the failure to be more closely related to the interpretation of the instructions given than my innate sense of direction.

Well, the first thing you wanna do is, you go straight until you reach the third red house. That’s one made from brick, mind - not the painted wooden one. If you see that one, you’ve gone too far and should hang a left - but if you do, mind the dog; that beast is rabid, I swear. Anyway, if you got that right - don’t actually go right - take another left. Not the same left as the one I mentioned before, obviously. That’s another one. So where were I? Ah yes. After a while you’ll notice the appearance of curb-side trees - I think there’s a term for that, but that’s not relevant - when you see those, you were supposed to take the immediate right turn before them, I think…

  • Yes, I suppose I could, but it’s just not the same, you know? Sure, perhaps the thermalization of the chaotic flaming furnace of a big crunch will ensure all remnants of the prior Universal state is eradicated just as effectively as the cold uniform isotropic order of heat death, but a big crunch harbors the hope of a new cyclic beginning. Before you know it, you’re veering into Penrose-ish optimism about the whole thing, and how’s that going to keep anybody awake all night shivering in horror?

  • Yes, I suppose claiming the AI service providers are ‘too big to fail’, despite having virtually no real customers, no significant revenue and them solving no real problems (but certainly creating plenty) would be just about the only way this whole debacle could possibly get any more idiotic. And it’s naturally a superb way to introduce a third step of making the US taxpayers hold the bag.

So… Given how the 21st century has gone so far, that regrettably does seem rather plausible.
