I’m curious… what makes liege waffle a liege waffle?
(It looks really good!)
Liege waffles are made from Brioche (yeasted & risen), so the dough is very dense and they have pearl sugar mixed in which gives them a delightful crunch while you eat them! Apparently you don’t normally add toppings, but maple syrup is too delicious for me to worry about the mild anachronism.
I might have to try that one of these days.
pretty sure maple syrup makes everything better, so I don’t think anyone is going to mind.
Can you make them in any bog-standard waffle maker? I’m delighted to try them myself
In any belgain-style (big squares) waffle maker, yeah. Don’t work very well in the smaller size waffle makers. Highly recommend trying it! They freeze and reheat in a toaster super well, too.
Best eaten warm, very “chewy” compared to the airy crunchiness of brussels waffles.
