Yeah, I’m mostly with you on that one. This creates some questions aobut their viability and there isn’t a particularly clear path from it to specific releases.

There was a bit of a mixed reception to this in their Discord server when they first revealed it and despite them taking the feedback quite graciously the final version hasn’t changed much at all.

It’s not a dealbreaker, and if you want to support them by all means, go nuts. I’d maybe politely suggest buying games instead of this, though.

Idk, i see this as them wanting to work on projects they know aren’t commercially viable. If i had the spare cash, i would consider it.

I guess? I still don’t see why spending the same money buying games wouldn’t achieve the same goals. Ultimately the commerical viability of the service for the devs that need to choose to use it is in the sales they generate, not the revenue they collect to secure the deals.

You see, if you buy a game they have already put in all the work, but if you donate they just get money to work on whatever. I know which version any corporation would like

FWIW, I’d rather support GOG than Steam any day. I’d just… rather also support some devs and get a game to play. I’d even consider a subscription blind box thing or whatever, if their concern is reliable income. The Patreon model is just an awkward fit, though. That’s even acknowledging that they’ve been doing more behind the scenes stuff and video content.
