I have the flu rn and is fucking hell, I feel phlegm down my throat and I must cough it out even if it hurts like hell, and I just can’t ignore it, is awful.
And that kinda lead me to a realization, when people say to not do that, so to not worsen the throat pain, is hard not to assume they have a way easier time ignoring the feeling of phlegm in your throat.
Also: if anyone has tips, they’re very welcome.
Definitely, we’re all way more sensitive to stimuli.
All you can really do is do something to distract yourself, medicated cough drops are great too, the numbing kind. Just don’t overuse them, mix them in with the kind with no active ingredients if you need to
Feel better
Cough drops / lozenges / hard candy. The menthol and medicine doesn’t help me much, but the constant production of saliva for lubrication and consistent reason to swallow reduces the accumulation of phlem and therefore reduces the coughing.
I have a neurodivergent cousin who’s a kid. When they get sick, they can’t stop themselves from coughing, because to them, coughing brings a little relief. They cough really loudly though, and their parent don’t really understand that to the kid, it doesn’t really matter how loud they cough because it feels unbearable.
I recommended cough drops (but be warned, don’t give too many to kids), but another thing I noticed is that when we engaged in their special interest (minecraft), they would cough less. I think that it was because they were too focused on something.
A little tangeant, but since you need multiple copies of minecraft to play together I just installed Luanti 😉
