Honestly, props to them for keeping it alive this long.

Was it taken down to be worked on for the “revamp”? I seem to remember that being the case but apparently not.

I know a few years ago when it was announced they ended up just firing the people who were going to be working on it.

So… They just gave up without ever really trying.

They didn’t give up. EA wouldn’t greenlight the resources they requested to overhaul the game. As much as I wanted this game to succeed, I don’t blame EA either. Bioware squandered their resources for years before making the decision to develop it into what it is today.

It’s a shame that it launched unfinished and at full price because the core gameplay was incredible good. Shall it had launched at €30 and with updates and expansions along the way it would have been a hit. But, yeah, corporate greed.

this is why i won’t invest in games with DRM and games lacking a good single player experience. MMO’s the exception

this could have had a nice campaign mode with a multiplayer mode added. even if community moved on you would still have a story to go back to.

in today’s reality art and mechanics live at the mercy of the publisher unless someone reverse engineers the backend ~~

I really enjoyed FFXIV for a few months a couple of years back (my character there is still my profile picture here) but I really prefer to own my games now. I can go back and play Skyrim any time I want to, but if I want to boot up FFXIV I have to either make a new trial account or basically buy it again, and after a month, I’ll be back in exactly the same position.

I swear to god this game is my biggest lament of the last 10 years. It had so much potential and they royally fucked it up from day 1. What was released was amazing but then it was quickly found there were game breaking issues that literally broke core gameplay due to how gear calculations were done. Not like a ‘oh let’s patch this’ but like ‘jesus Christ this is broken at the foundation’ type. It was also released way too early. They literally had time gated bullshit just to try and slow players down so they wouldn’t burn through content too quickly. Anyway, my rant aside what was there was glorious and I hope at some point we get a spiritual successor because damn was it fun and DAMN was it beautiful.
