My reaction to seeing new message notification on Lemmy: “Oh God, who did I piss off and which comment was it?”

Lemmy is for sure more chill. It used to be more chill when I first signed up and even the political communities were quite cordial even when there was a difference in opinions, but some reddit refugees brought their negativity and one-upmanship attitudes with them when they migrated here.

I still have a more positive experience overall here, but every now and then the most innocuous comment can set off a bunch of people’s tempers.

Yeah definitely agree, was very nice during the original big exodus. And I do notice a very Reddit style of dialog pretty often, but I also notice people saying “oh actually you’re right and I was wrong” here, not infrequently.

But then I also think some key (ongoing) world events have put everyone on edge. For myself I’m much more prone to an uncharitable read these days, due to all the apologia (and outright propaganda) I see for stuff I can’t stand.

It happens a lot less often here than it did on Reddit, but I too get a slight twinge of dread from it.
