Context: on the eve of WWI the SPD in Germany was the most successful and powerful socialist party in the world with a good shot of taking power in a couple years. Today’s party that fits the the pre-neoliberal SPD profile is “Die Linke”. I think if you say something bad about them a lot of German “left” liberals might come crawling out of their bougie apartments
