Ever since I first heard about the Big Bang as a kid, I’ve never really bought it. The concept of the entire universe being literally a dimensionless point - I just don’t think so. If that’s what the math leads to, doubt the math or the observations the math is based on. Same with dark matter and dark energy - I mean come on, if a theoretical model of the universe says it has to be 20x more dense than we can measure, you rethink the model - don’t decide 95% of everything must be “dark”. Dark is for the 3rd movie in a superhero franchise when the 2nd one doesn’t make enough money, it’s not a way to define the universe.
/end rant
Conversely, just because someone / we do not understand, does not make it untrue (ofc neither does it make it untrue:-).
The Big Bang, like so much else in science, is merely one possibility, a model to help people think about things. Obviously we could live in a universe that does something like The Matrix, where it only looks like its billions of years old but in reality this “simulation” could have started <5 years ago - which is an intriguing theory b/c in that case the (realistic) simulation was based on a world that actually is billions of years old, so the truth there is far stranger than the (in-universe fictions) of merely yay (truth) or nay (falsehood), but actually bits of both, simultaneously!?!?
The trick perhaps being… so what? We can only move forward with the partial information at our disposal, trusting in the processes (of science) to illuminate our steps, as we discard old theories that in light of new evidence we see are no longer viable, and entertain new thoughts that we never would have previously dreamed of, prior to learning so many new things about the world.
Btw I have no idea if the Big Bang or dark matter/energy are real or not either. Though I have no evidence to refute any of them either. The true answer is that I do not know… and to be honest I do not particularly care, as it has little relevance to my daily life:-). But I do like thinking about things, which is why I am saying here that the true answer is “I do not know”, in case that is of interest to someone?

I hope that this feedback on your earlier post helps the tiniest bit in that process, for whoever may decide to post here.)
