A funny meme about sensory input!
It’s called turning down distractions. That’s totally normal AFAIK.
I do not know, why they mock this. I literately make the same move when i read something. Its called concentrating and focusing.
then explain why I can only focus with music
It probably replaces random, potentially distracting background noises, with something well known and predictable, thus not as distracting.
Can you focus while listening to music you never heard before?
kinda, maybe not as good so you might have a point there
It drowns out the voices in my head so they stopped distracting me with their ramblings.
Better have a single external source I can filter out instead of multiple internal I can"t.
Also if you do hit or scrape something, you are aware of it faster. It’s how you minimize damage if it happens. Or you can scrape the whole side of the car because you don’t hear metal scratching over your fave music.
I really do turn up the lights to taste things better
Cognitive load is a thing. I do that sometimes.
Sometimes my brain is just at peak capacity trying to decipher a situation and turning down whatever i’m listening to will free up some mental processing to better understand XD
it makes sense when you’re maxing out on sense
I’ve missed stop signs and been in
neatnear accidents because I was in a car full of loud people, the radio blaring and people trying to talk to me all at the same time. That was years ago when I was younger. If we’re on the freeway, I can talk and play some music … but as soon as I’m navigating through a town or busy area … radio and music goes off … you can talk to me but I’m not really paying attention to you.
“Neat accidents”
They would not have been ‘neat’ if they had become an accident. The closest one I ever had that would have likely ended my life and the lives of the people I was with involved two transport trucks, a moose, rain, a rocky outcropping and beautiful northern lakes and wilderness. That would have been neat to see at the start but definitely would not have been ‘neat’ to see at the end.
I don’t think that word means what you think it does…
The worst is that battle between my desire to turn the A/C off because it’s loud and I can’t think and my need to put it on full blast because it’s 100 degrees outside.
Keep the AC on, just turn the fan down.
Excuse me I couldn’t hear what you said, let me put my glasses on…
