    A sad day :/

.ee came out of the blue, was highly involved in postings and comments and then they disappear :(

I’m out of the loop … I’m on .ee bcs I thought they defederated the last (I use my own filters).

    What did they do?

    Oh, nvm:

We’re really sorry to say this, but lemm.ee will be shutting down on June 30, 2025.

The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out.

The sad reality is that while there are a lot of great people on Lemmy, there are also some who use the platform to attack others, stir up conflict, or actively try to undermine the project. Admins are volunteers who deal with the latter group on a constant basis, this takes a mental toll. Please understand why our admins chose to step down, and be kind to the admins on whatever instance you decide to join.

We know this sucks. We’re genuinely sorry it’s ending like this. Thank you to everyone who spent time here and helped make it better.

If you want an instance that has similar federation rules, you can join the thelemmy.club

I will generally only defederate alt-right/nazi shit and illegal stuff. Other than that I leave it to the users. Of which we don’t have many but that’s fine our point is not growth.

Ooh, thanks for the recommendation. I settled on lemm.ee mainly due to their (de)federation policies. I’ll check out thelemmy.club

lemmy.zip also seems to not be overzealous with defederating instances

Oh noo, not the nazi stuff! (/s!!)

Just hope they still repost nazi stuff so we can meme about degenerates (& literally to know on what cultural references to call then out on, we can’t pretend they don’t exist).

Never heard about the club, will check it out, thx!

Yeah I was surprised by this this morning when I logged into my .ee account. But I get it. Burnout is no fun and moderating/administrating can be a thankless position that eats into your time.

They couldn’t replace the ones that left over the months. And sudden migration of reddit refugees from the ban purges recently dint help

Oh, I have a .zip account already, I think I started using .ee over it coz I didn’t see some instances (lol, but it wasn’t the nazi stuff).

        I’ll re-check it out, thx!

When an instance shuts down, does its contributed content get removed from instances it already federated to?

If you know an instance is getting shut down in advance, you can delete your own posts before it gets shut down. Most platforms will send out a delete request to other instances. There is no guarantee that they will honor it, but most do.
