The first 6-12 months here (during/right after the Reddit API drama) were great. After that…not so much.

Sounds like censorship to me. I’m from the old internet where if you didn’t like what somebody had to say you ignored them. Current internet is far too soft and full of safe spaces which will ban anybody for the slightest offenses.

yes, the current internet is full of safe spaces. as it should be. people deserve to feel safe.

you’ve basically gone into someone elses house and criticised them for not allowing you to track mud all over their floor.

Individual communities, sure, but not entire massive general instances. That’s beyond stupid.

Instances are groups of like minded communities. To extend the earlier metaphor it’d be like going to a town that doesn’t allow cars and you decide to ride your motorcycle down the sidewalks blasting all the houses with noize they don’t want to hear.

Sounds like privilege to me. For instance I think blahaj is entirely correct to aggressively enforce a space where people aren’t allowed to argue their userbase shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

You are free to host an instance with any rules you like, also lemmy is generally ok with Luigi posting

with reddit, you can twitch you would get shadowbanned, new users are likely to get banned because they look they are botting or spamming, because no account history, they just turned thier filters up very high. your account against 2 different set of filters(reddit filter sitewide, and subreddit of specific niches filters) they have all mostly increased it.

They said all that about a bunch of alternative media that was banned from all money processing. Oh, you can’t use the banks. Why don’t you just make your own? While I don’t agree with most of the things those kind of people said, I also do not agree with completely banning their speech. All that does is push them into the shadows and that’s how Donald Trump gets elected.

Running a lemmy instance is a lot easier than running a bank though. There may also already be an instance that is close enough for you and you could run a community there.
