Hey guys, so I’ve been working on a minimal, text-based Reddit alternative for the past few months, and I think it’s coming along nicely.
I’m calling it Nooki (name might change in the future). For now, it’s text-only posts. This could change if it takes off and people want to share images or other media.
It has most of the basic features of Reddit, and I’d love to get your feedback on the UI and any features you’d like to see added.
It’s not ActivityPub? The description on this community is:
A community to organize and discuss the growth of the fediverse as a whole
So this seems to be off-topic
Nooki isn’t federated right now. I mainly posted here because I figured folks who care about alternatives might have valuable thoughts on a minimal text-based one. I am personally interested in both ActivityPub and AT Protocol down the line, but I get if this is off-topic.
Cool but unrelated post, considering it doesnt support ActivityPub. Come back if you implement it
Fair enough. I’ll circle back if/when I add ActivityPub support. Appreciate you checking it out anyway.
- I love the idea, and I’ll be following progress.
- If pronounced the same way you’d pronounce “nookie” then in my country it is slang for a woman’s fiddly bits.
Lol, didn’t see that coming. Thanks for pointing it out tho. The name might change anyway, but I’m glad you dig the concept!
Are you planning on making it open-source?
And how is this text-based? The link leads to a web frontend which is pretty much not text-based at all. I had expected some CLI tool or something that’s operated with the keyboard?!
I do plan on making it open-source once it’s a bit more polished and stable. Right now it’s still an early build, so I’m keeping things simple.
As for “text-based”, I meant it in the sense of content type (text-only posts, no images/videos) that is just focused on minimal text posting/discussion.
