I saw I’m supposed to also post art I’m not happy with. I had a blast painting real scenery with a friend but really dislike my results. 10/10 will totally do it again in two weeks but also with my Mom who’s never painted outside of her house either.

It looks more dramatic than the subject you were trying to capture, sure, but I think calling it “not so good” is a massive disservice! It’s moody and atmospheric, and flows nicely. I think it’s great.

Thank you, maybe I’ll see it that way in time. Right now it feels too cartoonish for what I was going for.

That might be a colour thing, the subject you’re drawing is waaaay more “boring” in colour. Or maybe it’s a case of scale; your other work focuses on much much smaller scales; peoples’ faces, for instance (I’ve been following your work since the Samuel L Jackson series!), and the way light works on bigger things like these rocks might be way different?

You know way more about art than I do though, just trying to figure out what you might be seeing!

I think you have a good point, and I see what you mean. The way I painted it made a big thing seen small and the lighting makes it feel really close instead of in the distance. Plus the brush I used for the leaves sucked for that task.

Ah good eye, yeah the rocks do seem closer here than in the shot. Maybe this kind of subject needs a bigger approach, i.e. you zoom in and work in smaller squares to form one big picture?

The leaves look pretty good to me, though! Probably a subjective thing ✌️
