Forced upgrades and massive waste generation. Global economy literally has a needle hanging out its arm at this point.

There was a video recently from either Level1Techs or GamersNexus about the recent intel event. In it, they mentioned one of the unforeseen outcomes of Microsoft forcing this upgrade cycle is increased adoption of Macs for corporate laptops. If Apple manages to make significant inroads in the office space, I doubt MS will try this again. Although. we are in the enshittification era and it’s all about squeezing the customer instead of trying to keep or gain new ones.

Windows hasn’t been the cash cow for a long time. Office is still pretty big (and the corporate licensing is often bundled), but the big moneymaker is Azure.

If these companies are switching to web-based services in Azure, it ends up being a net positive for Microsoft.

Switched the gf to linux a week ago. Everything is now smooth sailing, few bumps in the first 2 days like installing the snap minecraft instead of the .deb (I thought snap/flatpak included all files needed, guess not as no java was installed for her JAVA Minecraft) ESO and Minecraft work as well as on windows, and she can even edit simple config files (her G13 kb). Yes her system supports win11 but not even sure we will upgrade her windows install
