It’s only $10 shipped for the whole kit from Creality, so I figured why not. I accidently pinched the wiring and had to repair it so that’s why there’s heat shrink on it.
So, fun issue those things can have: my Sovol SV07 Plus has one and it works great… or it did until the filament chewed through the plastic and made very awkward channels in and out of it. In itself no big deal, still goes through the sensor, but the issue is that it can be a bit too tight of a fit and get jammed. Like, HARD so you have to try pulling it both ways before it dislodges. It’s not a fun way for a print to fail. My workaround is to use a tiny bit of ptfe tube at the entrance, hot glued there so the filament will go straight. So far it’s been working.
What’s the benefit? Does it pause the print to let you swap filament? I’ve often wondered what to do with the last bit of filament on the roll that isn’t enough to do much of a print, and if so, that seems like it would help.
It pauses the print and waits for you to replace the filament so you could use up small rolls. It would also stop if the filament breaks, depending on where it breaks of course.
Very nice. Could definitely use that. I’ve got the same Ender as pictured, so def seems worth $10 and would pay for itself using up the tiny leftover bits on various rolls i have.
I bought it from their official eBay store it’s cheaper there than on Amazon
Yeah, I came here with the same question: What meaningful action can be taken in response to running out?
I bypassed mine because it doesn’t like certain types (colors?) of filament. I hope it works for your purposes
That’s weird, there’s different kinds of sensors, some are just a basic switch and others are optical sensors and then there’s some that are a wheel that sense movement. My guess is that you have an optical sensor.
I want one of these, but a specific one that also allows up to 8 different filiaments at once and automatically changes which is being used so I can do a multi-material print without having to stop and manually change anything.
But it costs 3 times more than my printer did. 😭
