Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to dominate IMAX screens for an entire month in 2026—the first film ever shot entirely on IMAX cameras. As theaters and studios fight for limited premium screens, this move could mark a turning point for theatrical releases and cement IMAX as the future of the moviegoing experience.
Can’t wait to not hear the dialogue on any other system outside of IMAX, Dolby, or a proper 5.1 home setup.
I am convinced Nolan is basically just a ‘influencer’ paid by Imax to keep Imax alive.
I get that Nolan loves the resolution imax has, but man i hate watching movies on that large of a screen. Needing to move my head constantly just to see what’s on the screen is annoying as hell.
Perfect at home though as it occupies the full frame of your TV (so not letterboxed).
Yeah I’ll definitely be watching this at home when it hits theaters. Yar
I know it’s not a complete solution (especially with IMAX), but sitting as far back in the theater as you can will help somewhat.
So theaters won’t show it on normal screens at all then?
Don’t worry, it will also be shown on regular theater screens too! It’s just that this will be the only movie playing in IMAX for about a month because of Christopher Nolan’s exclusive contract (meaning other movies planned to release in IMAX, for example “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, will not be able to do so at that time).
The movie won’t be on digital/streaming until about 3.5 months after release due to said contract as well.
