Wild to see Animal Crossing is the top single player game on Switch. (That’s not entirely accurate as MK8 can be played solo and ACNH can be played with others, though in both cases it’s a lesser experience and not really how the game was meant to be played, nor was how it was advertised.) (Also biased, I am an ACNH player.) Wild to see it topping Zelda (and that Breath of the Wild is topping its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom). Wilder that Mario Odyssey, a launch title, is topping the Pokémon games, and that Mario Wonder, the newer Mario game, doesn’t even rate. But I think the old-school fans who prefer 2D (ish) Mario aren’t a major factor, which is also why the Zelda games Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom don’t rate, either. Don’t blame Echoes’ non-showing on Zelda (being a girl) as you can play a girl in Pokémon and Animal Crossing, and the latter has a mostly-female player base and the fashion choices reflect that. (Hell, I’m a guy and I play a girl in ACNH just because there are more options! I actually play the daughter of my previous character… so there’s back story there and it makes sense.)
