  • It has been many moons since I have done that, and I think both the platform and makeup looks have changed a bit. Also, you should look for someone with similar skin tone and basic facial structure. Learning how to do a cat eye is different for someone with deep set eyes versus hooded eyes.

That said, I am surprised to see Lisa Eldridge is still active, she has a lot of basic tutorial videos if you sort by oldest (omg has it really been 15 years?). A lot of the other ones I enjoyed seem to have deactivated their channels :(

  • I haven’t earned that

Stop right there. You have a medical condition that needs treatment. No one earns medical care, it’s a necessity.

I agree with everything the other commenter said, thrift your clothes, and start with simple makeup. It will help you familiarize with women’s clothing sizes (they are nebulous), and what styles you enjoy. The more time you have practicing eyeliner, eye shadow blending, and blush placement, the better it will look when you’re ready to wear it in public and the more confident you will feel. I used to just sit with YouTube makeup tutorials and practice with them until I found things I liked

The point is that ADHD is an executive function disorder. There’s a lot of inertia to overcome before starting a task for someone with this disorder. It’s not like she didn’t know it was urgent or important, that actually probably played right into why she couldn’t do it

  • I do actually have AvPD. I was diagnosed at the same time as I was with ADHD (at 35), and it was really a huge surprise to me that I had this whole disorder that I wasn’t even aware of. I had barely left my house in the four years leading up to that, so maybe I should have had an inkling lol.

I have to say that either my experience with AvPD is extremely different than what’s often presented, or a lot of “experts” don’t really understand what they are talking about. Dr. Honda knows what he’s talking about, though. Thank you for sharing ^^

There is a melting point experiment I did in a college chemistry lab that involved melting glass tubing just to the point that we could stretch it to create a much thinner tube. Glass (depending on type) melts at a much higher temperature than what you’re using here for splicing, so that might be an easier and more reusable method for you?

Edit: search for “glass delivery tube”, should get you to what we used. Make sure it’s borosilicate and not polycarbonate

  • Just tagging on for your post-it note thing: I’ve found out absurdly helpful to put post-it flags (they’re actually called that lol) in places my adhd strikes hardest so I at least have a visual reminder something needs to be done. I have a couple on my TV, and even though I haven’t actually used the TV in months, it’s in a good location for that my eyes wander to. Alarms and notifications are easy for me to ignore/mute or get annoyed by, the flags are inoffensive and passive

My therapist referred me to a neuro-psychologist who tested me over two days. I didn’t pay for it, but I know similar tests are around $2k, because my friend did something similar. You should know there’s different ways to test for it, I didn’t do the eye tracking computerized test.

Meds are going to depend on your brain and body. I take Vyvanse and it lasts about 4 hours, which is when I’ll take an Adderall IR booster if I need longer focus in a day. Expense is actually less of an issue than being able to reliably fill them, if you’re in the states. Lots of shortages, and an annoying 28 day personal limit. I’ve gone weeks without because I kept forgetting to request a refill lol

Edit: for what it’s worth, you’ll likely need to be able to point to this being a lifelong issue and not a newly developed one. And they might not offer stimulants right away if you’re diagnosed. Lots of people get by on Strattera or Wellbutrin
