Since your Australia section is lacking, here’s a couple:
transport > transit
ute > pickup truck
bogan > redneck
metro > subway
cyclone > hurricane
Cloud? If you automatically have everything cloud hosted it could work okay.
This is completely normal.
Our nose switches sides to push air in or out of every couple hours. It’s called the Nasal Cycle. Here’s the wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_cycle
I love how different people respond to these threads every time. Really helps me discover cool comms.
Nah. Seeing how society and medicine treats disabled people has opened our eyes to the sort of fucked up things that could happen here.
You don’t even have to understand federation to use lemmy. Just pick a big server and use lemmy like you would reddit and it works fine.
That’s why the work you and a couple other lemmings do is so important.
I’ve barely ever used twitter but have like 4 accounts to my name over the past 15 years. I kept on forgetting I had already made an account.
Now imagine all the alts and bots and specific accounts people create for projects. Probably much less than 2.8 billion humans have created a twitter account. But 2.8 billion accounts have been created.
If you have the money to leave. Buy a couple people on the street loaves of bread or a sleeping bag or something.
You’re good with light and realism
That even includes lemmy with 50k MAU.
Coincidentally the US is also one of the few countries that taxes its citizens who live abroad. So they get double taxed. Both by the US govt and the country they live in.
Or just move to some EU country and just refuse to pay your US taxes, what are they gonna do, arrest you? 😉
Most American citizens have family (like their parents) in the country. If they don’t pay taxes they would be arrested when visiting the US to see their parents on their deathbeds. Or situations like that. Not great.
The US is one of the only countries on earth where you have to pay ~3’000 USD in fees to lose the citizenship. Ridiculous.
That doesn’t include images. Images are stored on wikimedia commons, which is about 600 TB.
Interesting. In europe it’s made simpler because we have the same number on our ID and our Passport. And in many european countries that is what’s used for identification from the government. And for all the welfare / bank and stuff.
Why not just use the passport number? Or does your passport have the SS number?
I don’t get it. Is a social secuirty thingy the same as what National ID’s are for in other countries?
Wow, rare to run into someone ME aware in the wild. Thanks for understanding ❤️
I think since everything is using slightly modularised software that integrates each other you end up being overwhelmed by so many names.
Like reddit is just reddit. But to use the lemmyverse you have “fediverse”, “activitypub”, then “lemmy”, “mbin”, “piefed”, (Not to mention all the instances and frontends) etc etc
